Executive Producer
Robert began his career in radio in Liverpool where he produced Alan Bleasdale’s SCULLY series for Radio City. In his mid-20s he began producing radio drama for the BBC Networks in Manchester and Belfast, producing plays by – among others – Stewart Parker, William Trevor, Neil Jordan, Graham Reid, Anthony Minghella and Jimmy McGovern.
In 1988 he moved to tv and produced the feature film TRULY MADLY DEEPLY by Anthony Minghella, starring Juliet Stevenson and Alan Rickman. He also produced Michael Winterbottom’s directorial debut for the BBC, LOVE LIES BLEEDING, William Trevor’s BEYOND THE PALE and Frank McGuinness’s THE HEN HOUSE directed by Danny Boyle.
In the mid 90’s Robert became the BBC’s Head of network drama in Northern Ireland where he initiated BALLYKISSANGEL and was executive producer of THE HANGING GALE, the Graham Reid films LIFE AFTER LIFE and THE PRECIOUS BLOOD, the Oscar-nominated short film DANCE LEXIE DANCE, the tv series AMONGST WOMEN by John McGahern and Ronan Bennett’s mini-series set during the Irish war of independence, REBEL HEART.
In the late 90s he produced the feature film DIVORCING JACK by Colin Bateman and initiated the MESSIAH series for BBC1. He was executive producer of MURPHY’S LAW, EUREKA STREET, AS THE BEAST SLEEPS, HOLY CROSS and Jimmy McGovern’s GUNPOWDER TREASON AND PLOT.
In 2004, Robert helped Kate Triggs set up Great Meadow Productions, since when he has been executive producer of three new MESSIAH series, the BBC4 film THE LONG WALK TO FINCHLEY by Tony Saint, the BBC2 films MARGARET by Rick Cottan and WHEN HARVEY MET BOB by Joe Dunlop and the BBC4 adaptation of John Braine's novel ROOM AT THE TOP by Amanda Coe.
